Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA senior Kristen Maloney has been named Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Mar. 14-20, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Maloney led UCLA to a come-from-behind quadrangular meet victory at Arkansas. The Bruins entered the final rotation down by .175 to third-ranked Nebraska. After UCLA's first vaulter fell, each subsequent vault had to be hit in order for the Bruins to stand a chance of overtaking Nebraska. Maloney was last up and not only hit, but hit big, scoring a season-high 9.975 to clinch the team victory.
Her second-place score of 9.95 on floor had helped the Bruins inch closer to the lead in the third rotation as they totaled 49.45 on floor to shrink a .35 Nebraska lead to .175. She also scored a 9.8 on bars and 9.875 on beam.
Maloney won the all-around for the fifth time this season, scoring a 39.6, and placed first on vault (her sixth vault victory of the year) and tied for second on floor.
Her marks helped UCLA achieve its second-highest road score of the season, 196.85.
This is Maloney's fourth Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honor this season and second in the last three weeks.
