Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA senior Kristen Maloney has been named Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Mar. 1-6, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. This is Maloney's third honor of the season.
Maloney made history this weekend, becoming the first UCLA gymnast ever to score a perfect 10 on all four events during her career. She scored a perfect 10 on bars, the first of her career on that event, in UCLA's 197.85-196.65 win over then-No.6 Florida. She had previously earned perfect 10s on vault in 2004 and on beam and floor in 2001.
In addition, Maloney tied for first place in the all-around, scoring a career-high 39.825. The score is the fifth-highest in UCLA history. Maloney also tied for first on balance beam with a season-high 9.975 (received one perfect 10) and tied for third on vault with a 9.9. Maloney received another perfect 10 from one judge on floor but ended up with a season-high 9.95 as her final score. She upgraded her final tumbling pass to a triple full, competing that skill for the first time as a collegiate gymnast.
