
Comforte Places Sixth At USA Gymnastics Championships

Incoming UCLA freshman Kristina Comforte placed sixth in the final all-around standings at the 2005 USA Gymnastics Championships to earn a spot on the U.S. National Team for the third time in her career.
Comforte recorded a two-day total of 71.664 after posting a 35.815 in Saturday evening's competition, moving up two spots from Thursday's eighth place standing. Comforte once again excelled on the vault and uneven bars, scoring a 9.383 on vault and a 9.15 on bars. In the individual event results, she placed seventh on bars with a total of 18.3.
Nastia Liukin won the all-around, bars and beam title, while Alicia Sacramone took home the vault and floor crowns. Sacramone earned a 9.9 on floor exercise Saturday night, the highest individual score at the U.S. Championships in nine years.
Saturday's final will be broadcast on NBC at 7 pm Sunday, Aug. 14.
Comforte will join the Bruin squad in fall quarter. UCLA's schedule kicks off on Nov. 20 with a Meet the Bruins exhibition, meet-and-greet event at the John Wooden Center at 2 pm.
