UCLA senior gymnast Kate Richardson will be out 4-6 weeks due to a non-displaced fractured left tibia at the knee joint. She suffered the injury on Sept. 16 while vaulting in practice. Surgery will not be required.
Richardson is a two-time NCAA champion (2003 uneven bars and balance beam) and a 10-time All-American. She competed for Canada at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. In 2004, she became the first Canadian gymnast ever to qualify for the floor exercise finals, where she placed seventh.
UCLA's season begins on January 3 at the Aloha Gymfest against Oregon State, Arkansas and California.
