Columbus, Ohio - Top-seeded Benjamin Kohlloeffel of UCLA won his first round singles match Thursday to advance to the round of 16 in singles play at the 2006 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by Ohio State at the Racquet Club of Columbus.

Kohlloeffel, the defending champion at the Indoors, defeated Boise State's Clancy Shields, 6-2, 6-3 in the opening round. Next up will be a meeting with hometown favorite Justin Kronauge of Ohio State in the round of 16.

Both UCLA women's players in the event didn't fare as well, as both Riza Zalameda and Yasmin Schnack dropped first-round singles matches Thursday. Zalameda lost to LSU's Megan Falcon, 6-3, 6-1, while Schnack fell to South Florida's Shadisha Robinson, 6-1, 6-2. Both now turn their attention to the consolation draw.
