UCLA's fifth-ranked men's golf team took the first round lead Sunday at the National Invitational Tournament hosted by the University of Arizona at Omni Tucson National Golf Course.

The Bruins fired a team score of 277 (-11) and led second place Arizona State by one stroke. Host Arizona was third at 281 (-7), followed by New Mexico at 282 (-6) and Minnesota at 285 (-3).

UCLA freshman Erik Flores vaulted to the top of the leaderboard with an opening round of 65 (-7). Flores, who birdied three of his first four holes, made eight birdies and one bogey on the day. He leads Fresno State's Jason Anthony and Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares by two strokes.

UCLA freshman Lucas Lee posted a three-under par 69 and was tied for eighth place. Junior Chris Heintz was tied for 20th after posting a 71 and sophomore Daniel Im was tied for 30th after posting a 72 (E). Sophomore Kevin Chappell signed for a 73 (+1).

Second round action continues on Monday with the final round scheduled for Tuesday.
