NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Senior Matthew Jacobs and freshman Ben Hohl each scored three goals to lead the fourth-ranked UCLA men's water polo team past No. 14 Pacific, 15-10, Saturday in first round action of the SoCal Tournament at Corona Del Mar High School.
Senior Marco Santos and sophomore Cole Consani each added two goals for the Bruins (13-2).
The Bruins opened with eight first-quarter goals, as Jacobs, Hohl and senior Marco Santos each tallied two goals in the first frame. UCLA and Pacific (11-9) each traded two goals in the second quarter. The Bruins led 10-3 at the half. UCLA outscored Pacific, 3-2, in the third quarter to own a 13-5 advantage heading into the final frame.
UCLA senior goalkeeper Matt Kellogg totaled six saves. David Andrus made five stops in the cage for Pacific. Will Milcovich scored a game-high four goals to lead the Tigers.
With the victory, UCLA advances to play No. 5 Pepperdine at 5:20 p.m. at Corona del Mar High School. The fifth-ranked Waves defeated No. 15 Bucknell, 10-8, earlier in the day.
