Bruins Drop to Second at Pac-10 Golf Championship

Golfers Are Second After Round One at Stanford

The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team was in second place following the first day of competition at the Stanford Intercollegiate Friday.

The Bruins posted a team score of seven-over par 291 and trailed first place Duke (282, -2) by nine shots. Arizona State was third at 293 (+9), followed by California, Georgia and Arizona, who were tied for fourth at 296 (+12).

Individually for the Bruins, freshman Glory Yang posted an opening round 69 (-2) and was tied for third place. Yang ran off three straight birdies on holes six, seven and eight to go to three-under par, but had to battle back after a double-bogey at No. 10. She birdied the par 3 17th for nines of 32-37.

Sophomore Sydnee Michaels was tied for 15th after carding a 73 (+2), and junior Ryann O'Toole was tied for 21st after posting a 74 (+3). Freshman Maria Jose Uribe was tied for 24th with a 75 (+4) and junior Tiffany Joh was tied for 46th after carding a 77 (+6).

Second round action continues on Saturday.
