Tucson, Ariz. - The fifth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team kept its perfect conference record in tact on Friday, taking a 5-2 victory over Arizona at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. With the win, the Bruins improve to 18-1 overall and 5-0 in the Pac-10.

The Cats started off hot in doubles play as the team of Claudio Christen and Pat Metham defeated UCLA's Mathieu Dehaine and Holden Seguso and won 8-3.

Then on court three Andres "Nacho" Carrasco and Peter Zimmer defeated Jeremy Drean and Michael Look 8-5 took give the doubles point to the Wildcats.

Court one was abandoned with UCLA leading 5-2 because the doubles point had already been decided.

The Wildcats then regrouped and shifted their attention to winning three singles matches.

Carrasco, playing on court two, found himself down 4-0 in his first set against Seguso. But that did not deter the Spanish sensation who focused in and took the next five games and won his match 7-5, 6-1.

Arizona was now leading 2-0 and looked in prime position to take the match.

But the Bruins would respond by winning the five remaining matches. Ravid Hazi and Peter Zimmer both took their respective matches three sets but in the end they couldn't seal the deal for Arizona.

"I'm proud of the way we came out and battled," said head coach Tad Berkowitz. "These guys (UCLA) are a tough team and refused to let our early strong play rattle them."

UCLA heads to Tempe, Ariz. tomorrow for a 1:00 p.m. match with No. 18 Arizona State.
