LOS ANGELES - The fifth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team played its final regular season home contest at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon, registering a 6-1 victory over UC Irvine. The Bruins will now take a 20-1 record into their final match of the regular season this Friday at No. 4 USC.

Although UC Irvine (10-13) lost the doubles point Wednesday, the Anteaters came within a few points of pulling off a doubles upset. After UCLA took an 8-4 win at court No. 1, UC Irvine actually owned match points at the same time at court Nos. 2 and 3. Alex Sundling and Zac Tsai made use of their match point at court No. 2, taking a 9-7 win over Mathieu Dehaine and Holden Seguso. Meanwhile at court No. 3, UCLA's Jeremy Drean and Michael Look fought off a match point at 5-6 in a tiebreaker, eventually coming back to take the next two points and win the pro set 9-8(6).

Possibly looking to make up for their loss in doubles, Dehaine and Seguso were the first to finish their singles matches to give UCLA a 3-0 lead. Dehaine, ranked 27th in the country, steamrolled No. 123 Victor Lamm at court No. 2, winning 6-1, 6-1. That win pushed his winning streak to 13 matches. Next door at court No. 3 Seguso, ranked 52nd, was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Trevor Dobson.

Freshman Nick Meister clinched the match for the Bruins at court No. 5, taking a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Stephen Stege. Harel Srugo (court No. 1) and Ahmed Ismail (court No. 6) were also straight-set winners Wednesday.

UC Irvine avoided the shutout when Khunpol Issara recorded a 6-3, 1-6, (12-10) win over Look at court No. 4.

It marks the second year in a row that UCLA has finished the regular season undefeated in home matches (12-0). The Bruins ended the regular season 13-0 last season and then tacked on two more wins in NCAA Regional play to finish 15-0 at home.

The Bruins and Trojans will play for the 2008 Pac-10 title this Friday at USC's Marks Tennis Stadium. Both teams enter the match with perfect 6-0 records in league play. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
