San Diego, Calif. - The UCLA and San Diego men's soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie in San Diego on Thursday night. Junior midfielder Michael Stephens scored the Bruins' only goal, and goalkeeper Brian Perk made a season-best eight saves.
The Bruins took an early lead in the seventh minute on Stephens' goal at 6:57. A loose ball in the box was headed away by San Diego defender Corey Norris and deflected off UCLA's Christian Vazquez right to Stephens, who fired a low shot to the lower left corner for his second goal of the season.
San Diego tied the score at the 39:18 mark when Andrew Feld fielded off Bruin defenders to score from 25 yards out.
The Toreros went on the offensive in the second half, taking eight shots, but Perk saved five of those shots to keep San Diego off the board.
Neither team got many shots off in overtime (four for San Diego and one for UCLA), and the game finished in a 1-1 tie.
The Bruins' record moves to 2-3-2, while San Diego moves to 0-5-3. UCLA next plays Cal State Northridge on Sunday, Sept. 28 at Drake Stadium at 2:30 pm.
