Vanessa Zamarripa Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Freshman Vanessa Zamarripa (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township HS) of the UCLA gymnastics team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 12-19.
Zamarripa, who was also named the Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week, won her first all-around title, scoring a career-high 39.4 to take home first place in the Bruins' 196.375-193.675 dual meet win over Arizona. Zamarripa tied or set career-highs on all four events. She tied for first place on vault with a 9.9 to match her career-high, tied for second on bars with a new career-best 9.85, placed fourth on beam with a career-high 9.825 and tied for fourth on floor with a career-high 9.825. Zamarripa led the Bruins to a new season-high team total and to season-bests on vault (49.2), beam (49.275) and floor (49.275). She moved up to fifth in the nation on vault with a season average of 9.9 and helped the Bruin team move up to second overall in the team rankings with an average of 196.225.
This is Zamarripa's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
