Freshman Trent Perez had a career day on Sunday at the Pac-10 Multi-Event Championships as he scored a lifetime-best of 6809 points in the decathlon to finish seventh overall, picking up two points for the Bruins.
Perez came into the meet with a previous best score of 6461 and far surpassed that this weekend with a new lifetime-best score of 6809. His second day total of 3386 was also a new lifetime-best. During day two of the decathlon, Perez tallied four lifetime-best performances.
He started the day off with a new best in the high hurdles, running 16.31 for 11th-place and 698 points. In the discus, Perez tallied a mark of 96-9 for 13th overall and 455 points.
The pole vault was a big event for the freshman as he cleared a personal-best 15-11, tying for second on the day and picking up 865 points. He was eighth in the javelin with a toss of 157-11 (561 points).
He capped off his day with a win in the 1500m, running 4:20.72 for 807 points, finishing over five seconds faster then his nearest competitor.
