LOS ANGELES - The seventh-ranked UCLA men's tennis team improved to 5-2 on the season on Tuesday, dispatching of local rival UC Irvine, 7-0 in a non-conference match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Five of the Bruins' six singles wins came in straight sets, with only court No. 6 needing a 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match. UCLA freshman Maxime Tabatruong came out victorious in that match, edging Ryan Mayer, 6-1, 4-6, (10-7).
Bruin junior Amit Inbar had the best showing on the day, losing just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Zac Tsai at court No. 3. Inbar's four-match singles winning streak is currently the longest on the team.
The Bruins round out the week in Northern California, facing No. 14 Stanford on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and No. 15 Cal on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Although both matches are important for ranking purposes, neither will count in the Pac-10 standings.
