The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team was tied for third place following the opening round of the NCAA West Regional Championship, hosted at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif.

The Bruins posted a first-round team score of 292 (+8) and were tied with Cal for second place. Virginia and Arizona were atop the leaderboard at 291 (+7). Texas was fifth at 293 (+9), followed by Alabama and UNLV at 295 (+11). After 54 holes, the top eight teams qualify for the NCAA Championship.

Individually for the Bruins, sophomores Brianna Do and Stephanie Kono were tied for 13th place after posting opening rounds of 72 (+1). Do, in particular, played a roller-coaster round. She began the day with three straight bogeys, but battled back with three birdies on her next six holes to finish the outward nine in even par. She dropped to -1 with a birdie at the 16th, only to bogey the last two holes for a one-over par score. Senior Sydnee Michaels was tied for 19th after carding a score of 73 (+2) and freshman Tiffany Lua and junior Glory Yang were tied for 36th following rounds of 75 (+4).

San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegart held the early lead with an opening round score of 67 (-4).
