
Larson Second, Zamarripa Seventh After Day One Of USA Championships

After the first day of competition at the 2010 Visa Championships in Hartford, CT, UCLA signee Mattie Larson is in second place, and Bruin junior Vanessa Zamarripa is in seventh place.
The senior women's competition at the national championships concludes on Saturday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 pm ET. It will be broadcast live on NBC on the East Coast beginning at 8 pm ET and delayed on the West Coast at 8 pm PT.
Larson is 2.2 points behind leader Rebecca Bross with a score of 58.2. Larson had the night's highest floor exercise score with a 15.0. She also posted a 15.0 on vault and added marks of 14.65 on bars and 13.55 on beam.
Zamarripa's all-around total of 56.05 puts her just 0.75 out of fifth place. She performed the most difficult vault in the competition, a Cheng, which has a difficulty score of 6.5, and stuck the landing for a mark of 15.6 (Watch video of Zamarripa's Cheng at Gymnastike.org). Her second vault, a Yurchenko full, which has a difficulty score of 5.0, earned a mark of 13.95 after she stuck the landing. Her two-vault average of 14.775 was good for second place on the event behind three-time World vault medalist Alicia Sacramone, who scored 15.35. Zamarripa also had Top 10 finishes on uneven bars (eighth, 14.0) and floor exercise (tied for 10th, 13.7).
