Golfers Climb into Second in Georgia

The third-ranked UCLA men's golf team climbed into second place on Monday at the U.S. Collegiate Championship at The Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, GA.

The Bruins posted a seven-under par score of 281 -- the day's best total -- and moved from a tie for sixth place into second place, three shots behind 36-hole leader Georgia Tech. UCLA was at 569 (-7) and Georgia Tech was leading at 566 (-10). Auburn, Washington and USC were tied for third place at six-under 570, followed by Florida State at 578 (+2).

Four UCLA players posted scores under par to help vault the Bruins into contention. Senior Alex Shi Yup Kim birdied the last hole, posted a three-under par 69 and was tied for 21st at even par 144. Junior Pontus Widegren was tied for 21st with Kim after posting a two-under par 70. Junior Pedro Figueiredo and sophomore Patrick Cantlay each carded scores of 71 (-1). Cantlay was tied for third place at 140 (-4) and Figueiredo was tied for 35th at 147 (+3). Junior Mario Clemens posted a score of 78 (+6) and was tied for 41st at 148 (+4).
