
Bruins Lose Kilgour Cup to Hawai'i

The 7th ranked UCLA men's volleyball team was swept by the 10th ranked Hawai'i Warriors 3-0 in the 34th annual Kilgour Cup at Pauley Pavilion.
The loss dropped UCLA back down to 8-8 on the year and 3-7 in conference play, which puts them currently in a tie for 10th place. The loss also dropped the Bruins' record to 26-7 in Kilgour Cup competition.
The Warriors jumped on the Bruins early, going up 9-4 to begin the first set. From there UCLA fought back to knot it up at 20-20 before a Jonas Umlauft kill, a Nejc Zemljak ace and attack errors by Gonzalo Quiroga and Weston Dunlap ended the set. Hawai'i would go on to take the second and third sets to win their first ever Kilgour Cup in their third try.
Junior Kyle Caldwell led the Bruins once again, recording a team-high 10 kills and 11 digs. Dunlap followed that up with 7 kills on the night while junior Thomas Amberg finished with 6. Overall, UCLA was outplayed at the net by Hawai'i, as the Warriors scored 11.5 blocks to just 5.0 for the Bruins. The Warriors also hit .329 in the victory while the Bruins hit only .176.
UCLA will hit the road next week, starting with a match on Friday, February 25th against the Stanford Cardinal at Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto, CA. They will then move on to Stockton, CA to play the Pacific Tigers at the Spanos Center. The Stanford match is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. PT while the Pacific match will start at 7:30 p.m. PT.
