LINCOLN, Neb. - Right-hander Trevor Bauer logged career highs with 17 strikeouts in 10 innings but did not record a decision as the No. 5 UCLA baseball team dropped a 2-1 ballgame in 12 innings at Nebraska on Saturday afternoon. Bauer limited the Cornhuskers to one run and four hits, issuing five walks through 10 frames.

UCLA (7-3) and Nebraska (7-4) played into extra innings for the second consecutive day. The Bruins won, 1-0, in 11 innings on Friday afternoon. On Saturday, Bauer and three Bruin relievers totaled 21 strikeouts in the 2-1 loss at Haymarket Park.

Nebraska scored the game-winning run with one out and runners aboard first and second base in the bottom of the 12th inning. Patric Tolentino reached first base safely on a third strike wild pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Khiry Cooper. UCLA right-hander Nick Vander Tuig, who entered with two outs in the 11th inning, intentionally walked Kale Kiser before Bryan Peters singled to left field. Peters' base-hit allowed pinch-runner Tanner Krietemeier to score from second base ahead of the throw from left fielder Cody Keefer.

Vander Tuig (1-1) absorbed the loss, allowing one run and two hits in two-third of an inning. He recorded two strikeouts and issued one walk, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the 11th inning. Vander Tuig entered the 11th inning with runners at first and second base and two outs. A hard one-hoppper ricocheted off Vander Tuig's arm and bounced to shortstop, allowing Chad Christiensen to safely reach first base and load the bases. Vander Tuig struck out Kurt Farmer looking on the next at-bat to end Nebraska's threat.

Right-hander Dylan Vogt (1-0) earned his first victory of the season for Nebraska, pitching five no-hit innings of relief. Vogt struck out three batters and did not issue any walks. Four Husker pitchers limited the Bruins to one run and four hits and did not allow any hits after the third inning.

The Huskers trailed UCLA, 1-0, from the third inning until the bottom of the seventh, when designated hitter Kash Kalkowski belted a solo homer to right-center field. Kalkowski was the only player for either team to log multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

UCLA scored one run in the top of the second on a run-scoring groundout by Tyler Rahmatulla. With one out, Pat Valaika reached on an infield single to third base. Valaika advanced to third on a double to left-center field by Jeff Gelalich and scored on Rahmatulla's groundout to third base.

The Bruins complete their three-game series at Nebraska on Sunday. Game time at Haymarket Park is 11:05 a.m. (PT)/1:05 p.m. (CT). Fans can view live video of Sunday's ballgame online at huskers.com (subscription required).

Bauer recorded his 11th career game with 10 or more strikeouts (second in three starts this season) ... Bauer moved into fourth place on UCLA's career strikeouts list with 290 ... the Bruins have limited their opposition to two runs or fewer in eight of the team's 10 games ...
