Canadian elite gymnast Ti Liu has enrolled at UCLA for Summer Session A and will join the UCLA Gymnastics team as a walk-on for the 2012 season.

Liu, who was born in China, trained at Gymnix in Montreal, where she has lived since she was five years old. She helped lead the Canadian team to a bronze medal at the 2007 Pan American Games and won the balance beam titles at the Canadian Championships in 2007 and 2008 (junior division). At the 2011 Canadian Championships in May, she placed fourth on balance beam and seventh on uneven bars.

She won the uneven bars title in the senior division at the 2008 Elite Canada, and in 2010, competing in the Open 16+ division, she was second in the all-around and on bars and fourth on beam at the Canadian Championships. Later that year, she earned a third-place finish on uneven bars at Elite Canada.

"Ti is a beautiful gymnast," said UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos Field. "Her flexibility and long lines are especially suited for bars and beam, which are her specialties. Ti has reported for summer school and is fitting in beautifully with her teammates who are still here and in school. She speaks French, Mandarin and English fluently and is finding her first week at UCLA extremely exciting."

Liu will join letter-of-intent signees Cassie Whitcomb and Dana McDonald in the 2012 freshman class.
