UCLA alumna Anna Li won the uneven bars and placed third on balance beam at the American Classic on Friday and has qualified to compete on those events at the VISA Championships Aug. 17-20 in Minneapolis, MN.
Li, who is now training at Legacy Elite with her parents Jiani Wu and Yuejiu Li, qualified for the American Classic after a week-long national team camp and qualifiers in Texas. Focusing on just bars and beam, Li needed a two-event total of 28 to qualify for the USA Championships and did so with a meet-winning 15.15 on bars and a 14.0 on beam. Li's difficulty score on bars was 6.2, higher than any athlete on any event in the competition and comparable to the 2010 U.S. bars champion.
Li was an eight-time All-American at UCLA from 2007-10 and led the Bruins to the NCAA Championship her senior season. She scored a pair of perfect 10s on uneven bars at the 2010 Pac-10 Championships and 2010 NCAA Regionals.
