Golfers Surge into First at U.S. Collegiate Championship

The fourth-ranked UCLA men's golf team surged into first place Saturday at the U.S. Collegiate Championship, hosted by Georgia Tech at the Golf Club of Georgia.
The Bruins posted the low round of the day -- a five-under par score of 283 -- and took over the top spot on the leaderboard at 580 (+4) after 36 holes of competition. Hot on their heels was Georgia Tech at 582 (+6). Tied for third place were Oklahoma State and USC at 588 (+12), followed by Virginia in fifth place at 589 (+13).
Individually, junior Anton Arboleda continued his solid play, posting a one-under par 71. He was tied for second place at three-under par 141, two shots off the lead. Freshman Jonathan Garrick fired the low round of the day for the Bruins, a three-under par 69, and was tied for fifth place at 143 (-1). Sophomore Matt Pinizzotto, although tied for 46th at 151 (+7), posted a 70 (-2). Sophomore Manav Shah and Jake Knapp were tied for 40th at 150 (+6). Knapp contributed a 73 (+1) and Shah's score of 74 (+2) was UCLA's drop score.
Oklahoma State's Talor Gooch continued to lead the field after posting a 71 (-1) for a two-round total of 139 (-5).
