
Day One Update for Men's Golf Doubleheader

Day one competition in Monday's men's golf doubleheader was completed with the Bruins enjoying success in both Long Beach and Arizona.
At the Del Walker Match Play Championship the Bruins won both of their matches to advance to Tuesday's finals, and at the Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, AZ, two UCLA individuals were tied for the 36-hole lead.
The Bruins won their quarterfinal and semifinal matches at the Virginia Country Club, defeating host Long Beach State, 3-2-0 in the morning and Oregon State, 4-0-1 in the afternoon.
Morning match scores saw senior Alex Shi Yup Kim (3&1), junior Pontus Widegren (4&3) and sophomore Patrick Cantlay (8&7) come out on top, while sophomore Anton Arboleda fell 4&2 and junior Pedro Figueiredo lost 3&2.
In the afternoon, Kim (2&1), Widegren (2-up), Figueiredo (5&4) and Arboleda (1-up) were winners, while Cantlay tied Alex Moore.
The Bruins will meet top-seeded Washington on Tuesday for the title.
At the Palm Valley Golf Club, junior Mario Clemens and freshman Jay Hwang were tied atop the leaderboard at five-under par 139 after two rounds. Clemen's fired rounds of 66-73 and Hwang posted scores of 68-71. Freshman Matt Pinizzotto (72-73--145, +1) was tied for 10th and teammate Preston Valder (74-75-149, +5) was tied for 18th. Junior Bobby Lange was tied for 70th at 158 (+14).
