The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team inched up the leaderboard Wednesday, moving into contention after 36 holes at the NCAA Championship in Franklin, TN.

The Bruins posted a team score of 290 (+2) in the second round and moved into a second place tie at 582 (+6), 11 shots behind Alabama, which was at five-under par 571 after posting a score of 285 (-3). North Carolina and Virginia were also tied in the runner-up spot, while South Carolina was in fifth place at 583 (+7) and USC was sixth at 585 (+9).

"Although we're quite a bit back from Alabama, we know that there's a lot of golf left to be played," said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. "We're one round away and we're looking forward to playing in the final pairing tomorrow. We're looking forward to having a really solid team round."

Four of UCLA's five players improved their positions on the leaderboard in the second round, led by senior Brianna Do, who climbed nine spots after posting a one-under par 71. Do was tied for ninth place at 143 (-1) after playing the outward nine in two-under par (with four birdies) and the inward side in one-over par.

Next was freshman Erynne Lee, who was tied for 16th at 145 (+1), an improvement of two spots, following her score of 73 (+1). She played another steady round and again birdied holes 17 and 18 (her eighth and ninth).

Junior Lee Lopez moved up two spots into a tie for 25th at 146 (+2) following her round of 73 (+1). Lopez played her front nine in even par and was one-over on her inward nine, including three bogeys and two birdies.

Junior Tiffany Lua improved five spots and moved into a tie for 42nd at 148 (+4) after carding a 73 (+1). She started her day with nine straight pars and played the inward nine in one-over, including a birdie and two bogeys.

Sophomore Ani Gulugian posted her second straight 77 (+5) and was tied for 89th at 154 (+10). She rallied from a disastrous front side of six-over and played the back nine in one-under par.

Alabama's Brooke Pancake assumed the 36-hole lead at six-under par 138 following her round of 70 (-2) on Wednesday.

The NCAA Women's Golf Championship is a 72-hole tournament.
