Anna Li Competes for Spot on Olympic Gymnastics Team

UCLA alumna and two-time U.S. National Team member Anna Li will compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team this weekend at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. The Trials take place at HP Pavilion in San Jose June 28-July 1.
Competition for the women begins on Friday, June 29 at 5:30 pm PT and resumes again on Sunday, July 1 at 5:30 pm.
The five-member Olympic team will be determined at the Trials, subject to the approval of the U.S. Olympic Committee's board of directors. The individual all-around champion at the conclusion of the two days of competition at the Trials will automatically make the U.S. Olympic Team. The remaining four athletes will be determined by the selection committee. The women's team, as well as replacement athletes, will be announced on July 1.
NBC Sports Network, formerly Versus, will broadcast the first day of men's competition live on June 28 from 2:30 to 5pm PT. Then, NBC will broadcast live coverage on television and at NBCOlympics.com of the remaining three days of competition: women's day one, June 29, 6-8pm PT; men's final day, June 30, 10am-1pm PT; and women's final day, July 1, 6-8 pm PT.
Television coverage of the women's competitions on June 29 and July 1 will be tape delayed in the Pacific and Mountain time zones but available live nationwide online. For a complete schedule of NBC's coverage, click here.

Li, an eight-time All-American at UCLA from 2007-10, is coming off a third-place finish on uneven bars at the Visa Championships, where she competed on two events (bars and beam). Li, who now trains at Legacy Elite Gymnastics under her coaches and parents Jiani Wu and Yuejiu Li, was a member of the 2011 World Championship gold medal team and won a bronze medal at the 2011 Visa Championships on uneven bars. Most recently, Li placed eighth in the all-around at the 2012 Secret U.S. Classic. During her time at UCLA, she led the Bruins to the NCAA Championship her senior season and scored a pair of perfect 10s on uneven bars at the Pac-10 and NCAA Regional Championships. Li totaled six NCAA Regional individual titles and three Pac-10 individual titles in her career.
UCLA has had 12 gymnasts compete in the Olympics - Samantha Peszek and Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs in 2008; Mohini Bhardwaj and Kate Richardson in 2004; Jamie Dantzscher, Kristen Maloney, Tasha Schwikert, Michelle Conway, Richardson and Yvonne Tousek in 2000; Tousek in 1996; Luisa Portocarrero and Stella Umeh in 1992; and Gigi Zosa in 1984. Bhardwaj competed in 2004 post-graduation, and Richardson had just completed her junior season at UCLA when she competed in 2004.
