Bruins Finish Sixth at Gifford Collegiate Championship

The 13th-ranked UCLA men's golf team finished sixth at the Gifford Collegiate Championship Tuesday at the Pelican Hill Resort North Course.

Top-ranked Alabama won its fourth team title this Fall, finishing ahead of runner-up USC by three shots. The Crimson Tide posted a 54-hole score of 836 (-4) and the Trojans were behind them at 839 (-1). Southern Methodist was third at 842 (+2), followed by fourth place Washington at 845 (+4). Northwestern was fifth at 848 (+8) and UCLA was sixth at 852 (+12).

In team scoring for UCLA, sophomore Jonathan Garrick was the Bruins' top finisher, tying for sixth place at 208 (-2), followed by classmate Lorens Chan, who tied for 11th at 209 (-1) after carding a round of even par 70 on Tuesday. Junior Matt Pinizzotto tied for 29th at 216 (+6) following his round of 73. Junior Preston Valder tied for 41st at 223 (+13) after a final round 74 (+4) and senior Anton Arboleda tied for 49th.

Six Bruins played as individuals, led by junior Jake Knapp, who tied for sixth at 209 (-1) following a final round score of 73 (+3). Jay Hwang tied for 15th at 211 (+1) after his round of 69 (-1). Junior Manav Shah tied for 32nd at 218 (+8) and freshman Alex Angard tied for 41st at 223 (+13). Reilly McMahon tied for 54th, and Aaron Kunitomo placed 56th.
