The UCLA Men's Golf team finished their first day on top at Amer Ari Invitational today in Waikoloa, HI. The 4th-ranked Bruins ended the opening round with a team score of 277 (-11), tied with TCU for the top spot and two strokes ahead of #2 Texas at 279 (-9).
It was a complete team effort for the Bruins, who saw three players finish the day inside the top two on the individual leaderboard. Senior Pedro Figueiredo, senior Pontus Widegren, and sophomore Manav Shah all carded a 68 (-4), the second-best score of the first round behind TCU's Daniel Jennevret at 67 (-5). Freshman Lorens Chan notched a 73 (+1), and sophomore Jay Hwang finished at 75 (+3) to round out the scoring for the Bruins.
UCLA will look to stay in front on Thursday, as the Bruins hold off such foes as Pac-12 rivals #7 Washington and #9 Southern California. For tee times and pairings click here, and you can follow the team leaderboard here.
