UCLA Builds Lead at Tempe Regional

The third-ranked UCLA men's golf team built its lead to 11 strokes entering the second round at the Tempe Regional Friday at the Karsten Golf Course on the Arizona State campus.

The Bruins posted a seven-under par score of 273 in the second round for a 36-hole total of 541 (-19). In second place was Central Florida at eight-under par 552, followed by Georgia at 554 (-6) and fourth-place Texas A&M at 557 (-3). Duke and Arizona State were tied for fifth at 558 (-2).

The top five teams from each of the six regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championship, May 29-June 4, in Atlanta, GA following Saturday's round.

Individually, senior Pedro Figueiredo led the UCLA fivesome with a bogey-free six-under par round of 64 and was tied for third place at 135 (-5). Senior Pontus Widegren and junior Anton Arboleda were tied for ninth place at 136 (-4). Arboleda posted a 69 (-1) on Friday and Widegren carded a 72 (+2). Freshman Jonathan Garrick was tied for 13th at two-under par 138 following his round of 69 (-1). Garrick played the inward nine in three-under par to rally from a two-over par outward nine. Third-year sophomore Manav Shah was tied for 16th at one-under par 139 following his round of 71 (+1).

Central Florida's Greg Eason was the 36-hole leader at 12-under par 128 following a round of 63 (-7) on Friday.
