Top-Ranked Bruins Beat Beavers, 3-0

October 25, 2014 | Women's Soccer

No. 1 UCLA continued its high-scoring winning ways, defeating Oregon State, 3-0, on Friday night in Corvallis. The Bruins scored all three goals in the second half and extended their school-record unbeaten streak to 37 games.

After a scoreless first half, the Bruins (14-0-2, 6-0-1 in the Pac-12) unleashed immediately in the second half, scoring on a Sarah Killion penalty kick at 45:47. The goal was her sixth of the season.

The Bruins scored twice more in a span of three minutes, thanks in large part to Kylie McCarthy. On goal number two of the game, Sam Mewis took a throw-in from Ally Courtnall and one-timed it to an onrushing McCarthy on the right side. McCarthy dribbled up and took a shot that was deflected by a Beaver defender straight to Mewis, who followed through on the play and shot past the Oregon State goalkeeper for her team-leading 11th goal of the year.

McCarthy got her goal just three minutes later, taking a pass from Caprice Dydasco and shooting from 22 yards out. The shot hit the crossbar and went off the back of the goalkeeper and in for McCarthy's first goal of the season.

UCLA, which outshot Oregon State (0-13-3, 0-7-0) by a 23-4 margin, allowed just one shot on goal in the game, taken in the first five minutes of the contest. Katelyn Rowland made the save and earned her 12th shutout of the season and the 48th of her distinguished career. Oregon State goalkeeper Bella Geist had five saves off the Bruins' eight shots on goal.

The Bruins will next take on Oregon on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1pm in Eugene. The match will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
