UCLA Wins Erin Hills Intercollegiate

Behind a score of 14-under par 274 in the final round, the UCLA men's golf team won the Erin Hills Intercollegiate Tuesday in Erin, Wisconsin.

The Bruins' wire-to-wire victory was their second of the season and the 21st title of Head Coach Derek Freeman's eight-year UCLA tenure. Their score of 274 was a season-best and the lowest team score of the tournament.

In the final round, the Bruins began at seven-over par before finishing at five-under par 859. SMU posted a team score of 283 (-5) and finished second at 871 (+7). Host Marquette was third at 878 (+14), followed by Northwestern in fourth place at 880 (+16) and South Florida in fifth place at 882 (+18).

Individually, junior Jonathan Garrick sizzled with six-under par 66, climbing 22 spots up the leader board to finish in a tie for seventh at 218 (+2). Garrick's round featured six birdies and an eagle at the par 4 15th hole, where he hit driver 280 yards into the wind to within six feet of the cup and drained the putt. Senior Manav Shah and junior Lorens Chan tied for second place at 213 (-3). Both players fired three-under par scores of 69. Junior Jake Knapp posted a solid two-under par 70 and tied for 14th place at 221 (+5). Knapp rose 11 spots up the leader board in the final round. Senior Preston Valder carded the drop score of 74 (+2) and tied for 21st at 223 (+7).

Freshman Corey Shaun played as an individual competitor and tied for 42nd place following his score of 73 (+1).

SMU's Bryson Dechambeau won medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 212 (-4) after carding a final round 69 (-3).
