
UCLA Remains in Second at Gifford Collegiate Championship

On moving day, the Bruins posted a stellar nine-under par score of 346 only to be eclipsed by their arch-rival USC, which carded a 10-under par score of 345. The Trojans owned a three-shot lead with a two-round total of 698 (-12), followed by the Bruins at 701 (-9). Northwestern was in third place at three-over par 713, followed by Stanford at 719 (+9) and fifth-place Texas at 721 (+11).
Individually, UCLA junior Jake Knapp was still atop the leader board at 136 (-6) after posting a score of 70 (-1). Junior Lorens Chan climbed 10 spots up the ladder with a team best score of 67 (-4), a round that featured five birdies and a bogey. He was tied for fourth at 138 (-4). Junior Jonathan Garrick also made five birdies en route to a second round score of 68 (-3) and was tied for sixth at 140 (-2). He vaulted 18 spots up the leader board. Senior Preston Valder was tied for 18th at 143 (+1) after an even par round of 71, and senior Manav Shah was tied for 38th at 147 (+5) following his round of 73 (+2). Freshman Corey Shaun made five birdies on his card and signed for a score of 70 (-1). He was tied for 49th at seven-over par 149.
The rest of the Bruins' roster competed as individuals. Senior Matt Pinizzotto posted a 69 (-2) and was tied for sixth at two-under 140. Jay Hwang was tied for 18th at 13 (+1) after an even par round of 71, and freshman Corey Shaun was tied for41st at 148 (+6) after carding a 73 (+2). Senior Kyle Pollema was tied for 59th at 151 (+9) following a round of 74 (+3) and freshman Victor Ponte was tied for 62nd at 152 (+10).
