Fourth-Seeded UCLA Wins Opening Match at Team Indoors

UCLA clinched Friday's doubles point when top-ranked Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady posted a 6-4 victory over 21st-ranked Breaunna Addison and Pippa Horn at court No. 1. The Bruins had previously notched a win at court No. 2, where Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips notched a 6-3 win over Elizabeth Begley and Neda Koprcina.
Wins by Anderson (court No. 1) and McPhillips (court No. 4) in singles put UCLA ahead 3-0 in the match and the Bruins were within a point of getting the victory. Texas, however, had other plans, as the Longhorns took wins at court Nos. 6 and 3 to cut the lead to 3-2.
Fortunately for UCLA, Harrison took care of business at court No. 5, downing Horn, 7-6(4), 6-3 to clinch the win for the Bruins. Ninth-ranked Chanelle Van Nguyen was up 7-5, 4-3 over Ratnika Batra at court No. 2 when play was suspended.
UCLA has played in the last two National Team Indoor finals, winning the event in 2012 and falling in the title match a year ago.
