Sticks from the first three competitors set the bar early on vault. Arkansas' Katherine Grable, who was the second competitor, nailed a Yurchenko half-on, pike half off for a 9.975. Courtney, competing in the sixth spot, had huge height on her Yurchenko layout full but took a small hop and scored 9.875. The only person to catch Grable was defending co-champion Rhegan Courville from LSU, who tied her 9.975 mark to become the first back-to-back vault champion since Alabama's Ashley Miles in 2003-04. Grable also won the floor exercise with a score of 9.9625.
On uneven bars, Peszek came up in the sixth spot needing to best 9.925, which was scored by Stanford's Samantha Shapiro. Peszek, who was aiming for her second career individual title, was on track for a high score until she overdid it on a handstand and came off the high bar. She finished her routine with a perfect landing on her double layout dismount and scored 9.1, which put her in 12th place overall. Florida's Bridget Sloan placed first with a score of 9.9375.
Winning the balance beam was Taylor Spears from Oklahoma (9.925).
