LOS ANGELES – Nirra Fields scored a game-high 20 points but it wasn't enough as UCLA dropped its first game in Pac-12 play to No. 13 Oregon State, 65-47 on Saturday evening at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins dropped to 5-8 overall and 1-1 in the Pac-12 while the Beavers Improved to 11-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Jamie Weisner scored 17 points, Sydney Wiese added 16 and Gabriella Hanson 11 -- each knocked down at least a trio of treys -- as 13th-ranked Oregon State defeated UCLA for the first time in Los Angeles since 2007. The Bruins have now lost 13 straight games to ranked opponents.
Wiese drained 4-of-9 three-pointers for the Beavers, which are off to their best start in school history. The Beavers are aiming for a rare sweep in L.A., taking on USC Monday (The last sweep came during the 2000-2001 season).
Oregon State made six 3-pointers in its first seven shots, taking an early 20-10 lead on the Bruins.
The Beavers lofted 28 3-pointers, making 12. UCLA made only three 3-pointers and shot 25 percent from the field for the game (15-for-60), and were outrebounded 51-31.
Still, the Bruins came as close as 37-29 when Fields scored her 1,000th career point on a layup with 16:14 to play, becoming the 31st player in UCLA history to reach that milestone (she now has 1,008 points).
Two bright spots for UCLA, the Bruins shot a season-best 93.3 percent (14-for-15) from the free throw line and committed a season-low five turnovers.
The Bruins were without their third-leading scorer in freshman Jordin Canada, who broke her nose in practice on Friday. Her status for Monday's game is undetermined.
