Weekend In Review
On Friday, UCLA hosted the third-ranked Stanford Cardinal and fell, 2-1, in a tightly contested match. The Cardinal scored a late first-half goal to take a 1-0 lead into the half. The Bruins would respond with a goal of their own from Abu Danladi early in the seond half, but a 65th minute strike from Stanford's Jordan Morris proved to be the difference. Jose Hernandez netted the potential tying goal in the 85th minute, but an offside call negated the score and left the Bruins in defeat.
On Monday, the Bruins dominated the Cal Golden Bears, winning 6-0. Three goals in both the first and second half led UCLA to the lopsided victory. Abu Danladi led the way with a pair of goals, while Seyi Adekoya, Javan Torre, Felix Vobejda and Jackson Yueill all scored as well in the win. The offensive output marked the first time since November 15, 2008 (W, 6-1/UCLA vs. SDSU) that UCLA scored six goals in a game and the first time since December 7, 2002 (W, 7-1, UCLA vs. Penn State) that the Bruins won by a six-goal margin.
Seyi and Jose Lead the Way
UCLA sophomore striker Seyi Adekoya and freshman midfielder Jose Hernandez have served as the catalysts for the UCLA offense this season. Adekoya leads the Pac-12 Conference in goals (8) and points (17) while Hernandez ranks second in the conference in goals (7) and points (16). Among all Division I collegiate players, Adekoya ranks T-21st in goals and T-38th in points and sits just one goal back of last year's team leader, Leo Stolz (9). Among all Division I collegiate freshmen players, Hernandez ranks T-5th in goals and T-8th in points.
Youth Reigns Supreme
For UCLA this season, the youth has carried the scoring load through 13 games. Of the Bruins' 30 goals, 25 have been scored by freshmen or sophomores. Additionally, the freshmen and sophomores have racked up 66 of the team's 85 points, accounting for 78 percent of the team's scoring output. The complete scoring breakdown by class can be found below.
| Class | Goals | Assists | Points |
| Freshman | 13 | 8 | 34 |
| Sophomore | 12 | 8 | 32 |
| Junior | 2 | 6 | 10 |
| Senior | 3 | 3 | 9 |
UCLA Offense On Rampant Pace
The UCLA offense has been on point so far in 2015 and leads the way in the Pac-12 Conference. The Bruins enter the weekend with 30 goals through the first 13 games of the season. The Bruins currently lead the Pac-12 in total goals and goals per game (2.31) and are currently on pace to score about 44 goals in the regular season. Among all Division I collegiate teams, the Bruins rank sixth in goals per game and 13th in total goals.
Second Half/Overtime Adjustments
UCLA has been a completely different team in the second half and overtime so far this season. 24 of the team's 30 goals have been scored in the second half or overtime and 127 of their 190 shots have come in the second half or overtime. The shot differential in the second half and overtime also favors UCLA, 127-66, over opponents.
Different Match, Different Lineup
In 13 matches this season, the Bruins have trotted out 12 different starting lineups. Games five and six vs. Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara are the only two games where UCLA used the same lineup. Additionally, 20 different players have earned a starting nod at some point this season.
15 Bruins Named to Pac-12 All-Century Team
14 former players and one former coach were named to the Pac-12 All-Century Men's Soccer team this week. The team was defeated by Germany in the tournament opener on Oct. 6, drew with Scotland on Oct. 9 and drew with Mexico on Oct. 12. Both Jones and Yueill have extensive National Team experience, each serving as consistent members of the U-18 Men's National Team. In the history of the program, UCLA players have logged 476 international caps for the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team, led by Carlos Bocanegra's 23.
Tough Schedule Ahead
UCLA has already played four teams that were ranked in the NSCAA Top-25, but still have three more against current Top-25 teams. The Bruins still must travel to No. 3 Stanford and No. 5 Akron and host No. 17 Washington.
