Bruins Host Gifford Collegiate

CARLSBAD, Calif. - The Bruins wrap up the fall portion of their team schedule next week, hosting the 11th Annual Gifford Collegiate at the La Costa Legends Course. The tournament runs from Monday through Wednesday at the par 71, 6,996-yard layout.
The 15-team field consists of Arkansas, Colorado, Harvard, Marquette, Northwestern, Oregon, San Diego State, San Jose State, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USF, Washington and Wisconsin. Live scoring can be found here.
In the 10 previous years of the Gifford Collegiate, the Bruins have won five times, including last season (-15, 1,050) at CordeValle GC. UCLA also won in 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2012. James Lee (2007) and Patrick Cantlay (2010) have each won individual honors at the Gifford.
The Bruins are playing their fourth tournament of the fall, finishing third at the Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 12-13) and the Erin Hills Intercollegiate (Oct. 4-6) and 14th at the United States Collegiate Championship (Oct. 16-18).
UCLA's counting five for the Gifford will be seniors Jonathan Garrick and Jake Knapp, sophomore Corey Shaun and freshmen Cole Madey and Patrick Murphy. Sophomore Brandon Mai and freshman Phil Delisi will play as individuals.
Garrick has a pair of Top 10 finishes this season, winning the Erin Hills Intercollegiate (206, -10). He has been the top finisher for the Bruins in all three tournaments and leads the team with a 71.3 scoring average.
Knapp (T-18 at Northern, T-19 at Erin Hills) and Murphy (T-9 at Northern, T-19 at Erin Hills) also have a pair of Top 20 finishes on the season.
