Danladi is Pac-12 Player of the Week
November 03, 2015 | Men's Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO – UCLA sophomore striker Abu Danladi has been named the Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week for games from October 26 – November 1, it was announced today by the conference office. Danladi racked up three assists to lead the Bruins to a, 4-2, road victory over the sixth-ranked Akron Zips on Sunday.
Danladi now has six goals and eight assists (20 points) on the season, ranking third on the team in goals, first in assists and third in points. Danladi now has a goal or an assist in five-straight games, totaling five goals and four assists over that stretch. Among all Pac-12 players, Danladi's eight assists rank third best.
On Sunday, Danladi set up the first three Bruin goals, including the game-winner to Seyi Adekoya. The Ghanaian striker was spectacular, making a number of highlight-reel passes, including a brilliant back-heel assist for the team's first goal. In addition to his three assists, Danladi also drew a penalty kick in the box, setting up Jose Hernandez for the fourth goal from the penalty spot.
Through 16 games, Danladi has already surpassed his point, goal and assist totals from a season ago. This is the second time Danladi has earned Pac-12 Player of the Week in his career and UCLA's 58th all-time selection. Danladi joins Adekoya as the only two UCLA players to garner the award this season.
The Bruins close out their regular season home schedule this weekend when they host the Oregon State Beavers and the Washington Huskies. UCLA opens the weekend against Oregon State on Friday, November 6, at 2:00pm PT, before closing out against Washington on Sunday, November 8, at 5:00pm PT. Both games can be heard live on uclabruins.com and Sunday's match will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
