#19 UCLA Dominates Oregon State, 4-1

LOS ANGELES – A dominant 90-minute effort led UCLA to a convincing, 4-1, victory over the Oregon State Beavers on Friday afternoon at Drake Stadium. Seyi Adekoya, Larry Ndjock, Jordan Vale and Jackson Yueill all scored in the Bruins' sixth four-plus goal output of the season.
“Today was a comprehensive attacking performance from the team and we are starting to play our best during the most important time of the season,” said UCLA Associate Head Coach Nick Carlin-Voigt. “We dictated the game from start to finish with the ball. Our depth and unselfishness was on full display as guys continue to make the team the star. The great thing about these guys is that they continue to want more and aren't satisfied. Give credit to Oregon State for competing incredibly hard until the final whistle. We still feel we have another level and we are excited for the match Sunday against a very talented Washington side.”
UCLA (9-7-1, 4-3-1 in Pac-12) came out and dominated the opening 45 minutes of play, generating all of the offensive chances. The consistent pressure paid off with an early goal from Adekoya. In the 27th minute, Jose Hernandez shielded off a defender and advanced the ball to Abu Danladi 30 yards out from net. Danladi then spun around the Beaver defender and fed a well-placed through ball in to Adekoya running down the left side. The sophomore took one touch and finished with his left foot to the far post to give the Bruins the one-goal advantage.
Later in the half, UCLA came close to putting a second tally on the board. In the 40th minute, Willie Raygoza put on a display of brilliant footwork to get past a number of defenders and find Danladi rushing in behind the Oregon State defense. Danladi then hit a low shot past the goalkeeper, but his attempt hit off of the post and deflected across to Ndjock. The German striker looked to have an empty net, but his shot was re-directed high, keeping the goal differential at one.
At the half, UCLA had a first half season-high 15 shots and allowed zero Oregon State shots. The Bruins also racked up four corners to the Beavers' none.
The Bruins had another golden chance one minute into the second half when Adekoya was taken down inside the box, netting UCLA a penalty kick. However, Hernandez's attempt was thwarted by a wonderful diving stop from Nolan Wirth to keep the score at 1-0.
However, that didn't last long as Vale scored in the 52nd minute to extend the Bruin lead to two. Felix Vobejda passed the ball to Danladi running down the right flank. Danladi then slipped a ball into the center of the box to Vale who scored with ease to the far post for his first goal of the season.
Four minutes later, Yueill scored his fifth of the year to push the lead to three. The freshman midfielder picked up a loose ball at the right edge of the box and avoided a pair of defenders to put him in a good position to score. He then let a firm shot fly to the far post and into the side netting for the score.
Oregon State (7-8-1, 2-5-1 in Pac-12) would eventually add a late tally off of the head of Jordan Jones to ruin the Bruins' shutout bid. In the 85th minute, Jones got on the end of a well-placed Timmy Mueller cross to cut the deficit to two.
The Bruins would once again push the lead back to three just three minutes later. Raygoza showed off his footwork again to find space and feed Ndjock inside the box. The senior striker did not disappoint, beating Wirth for the final goal of the contest.
Overall, UCLA out-shot Oregon State, 23-4, a new season-high in shots for the Bruins. Juan Cervantes earned the win in net, while Nolan Wirth was forced to make five saves in the defeat for Oregon State. Earning two assists in the contest, Danladi now has a goal or an assist in his last six games, netting five goals and six assists over that stretch.
