LOS ANGELES -- No. 19 UCLA (6-2) concluded its home nonconference slate with an 83-48 victory over UC Irvine (3-7) on Wednesday evening at Pauley Pavilion.

Senior guard Nirra Fields scored nine points in the first quarter to lead the Bruins in the opening stanza. Her three-pointer at the 5:40 mark broke a 9-9 tie and gave UCLA the lead for good. The Bruins built a 26-14 lead by the end of the period.

The Bruins dominated the second quarter as well, winning 21-11 to increase the lead to 47-25 at the break. Sophomore point guard Jordin Canada nearly outscored the Anteaters by herself in the period with 10 points to tally 17 by halftime.

After a sluggish start in the third quarter that saw UCLA outscore UC Irvine 7-3 in the first five minutes, the Bruins maintained a comfortable lead throughout. Winning the third by a score of 22-10, the Bruins led 69-35 at the end of three. Fields led the Bruins with seven points and seven rebounds in the period to end the night with the 10th double-double of her career with a career-high 14 boards to go with 22 points.

Junior guard Kari Korver knocked down her second three of the game to give UCLA a 75-38 lead with 6:38 to go in the fourth. The Bruins then pulled all of their starters giving valuable minutes to the bench. UC Irvine outscored UCLA 10-8 down the stretch to provide the 83-48 final.

For the game, UCLA shot 46.3 percent from the floor (31-for-67) while holding UC Irvine to 28.1 percent (18-for-64). The Bruins hammered the Anteaters on the boards, 59-30, including four or more by eight different players.

Canada finished with the 17 points she scored in the first half to go with three assists. Senior Kacy Swain was the only other Bruin to reach double figures with 12 points. She added six rebounds and two steals. Freshman guard Kennedy Burke had five points and seven rebounds and led UCLA with seven assists. A couple of Bruins got their first points of the season as sophomore Chrissy Baird made her only shot of the game and sophomore forward Lajahna Drummer made all three of her shots to finish with eight points and four rebounds.

UC Irvine, which doesn't have a single player averaging in double figures this season, was led by Teirra Hicks, Jenny Dee and Shereen Sutherland, each scoring nine points.

The Bruins return to action on Friday, Dec. 18 when they travel to the capital to take on Sacramento State (2-5) at 7:05 p.m. in the first of three straight road games.
