INDIANAPOLIS - UCLA junior guard Bryce Alford has been selected as a nominee for the 2015 Allstate NABC Good Works Team, as announced Wednesday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
The community service award recognizes a distinguished group of student-athletes who have demonstrated a commitment to enriching the lives of others and contributing to the greater good in their communities.
Alford, who has played in all 80 games for the Bruins since the start of the 2013-14 season, has played a strong role for the Bruins both on and off the court. Alford has volunteered with the Special Olympics both in Los Angeles and as a high school student-athlete in his hometown of Albuquerque, N.M. He has also been involved with Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA and the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The NABC, along with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance Company announced an all-time high 257 total nominees for the 2016 Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams. In its fourth year, the Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams recognize players at all levels of college basketball who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement.
From the 154 NABC nominees and the 103 WBCA nominees, special voting panels will select two 10-member teams comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from the Division II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February.
