Men's Tennis Falls to North Carolina, 4-2 at National Team Indoors
February 13, 2015 | Men's Tennis
UCLA was able to get out to a 1-0 lead against the Tar Heels (9-1) following a pair of doubles victories at court Nos. 1 and 2. Sixth-ranked Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki cruised at the No. 1 position, downing Brayden Schnur and Oystein Steiro, 6-1. That win was followed by court No. 2, where Joseph Di Giulio and Karue Sell downed Brett Clark and Robert Kelly, 6-2.
North Carolina, however, responded quickly in singles, taking a pair of straight-set victories to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Redlicki, who attended nearby Lake Zurich High School, would even the match at 2-2 when he came back after losing the first set to down Clark, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, that was the lone singles victory of the day, as the Tar Heels notched a pair of three-set wins at court Nos. 6 and 2 to close out the 4-2 win.
At the time of suspension, McDonald, the nation's second-ranked player, was serving up a break at 4-3 in the third set over Schnur, who is ranked No. 6 nationally.
