Men's Tennis Blanks SDSU, 4-0
February 07, 2015 | Men's Tennis
UCLA was dominant in doubles, especially at court No. 2 where Joseph Di Giulio and Karue Sell didn't drop a game in a 6-0 win over Thorsten Bertsch and Marko Goles-Babic. The Bruins then clinched the point at court No. 1 when 11th-ranked Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki downed Freddy Gelbrich and Hendrik Jebens, 6-3. UCLA was also up 5-2 at the No. 3 spot when play was suspended.
A pair of straight-set wins in singles quickly put the Bruins up 3-0 in the match. After not dropping a game in doubles, Sell made it a perfect afternoon for himself when he downed Jonas Meinzer, 6-0, 6-0 at court No. 5. Redlicki soon followed at court No. 4, beating Milen Ianakiev, 6-3, 6-0.
For a while it looked like Di Giulio would get the clinching win at court No. 6, however he dropped a second-set tiebreaker to Andranik Khachatryan. Most of the attention then turned to court No. 1, where McDonald lost the second set but was cruising over Gelbrich in the third. McDonald ended up clinching it, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to give UCLA the 4-0 win.
UCLA returns to action tomorrow, hosting St. Mary's at 1:00 p.m. at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
