No. 16 Bruins Blank Tulsa, 5-0
March 04, 2015 | Men's Tennis
From the start of Tuesday's match it was obvious that UCLA came out ready to play, as the Bruins thoroughly dominated doubles. In fact, UCLA didn't surrender a single game in its two doubles wins, posting a pair of 6-0 victories at court Nos. 3 and 1 to claim the point. Doubles play was suspended after fifth-ranked Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki blanked 33rd-ranked Carlos Bautista and Alejandro Espejo at the No. 1 spot.
Singles was play was much of the same, as the Bruins quickly moved out to a 3-0 lead following straight set wins by Redlicki and McDonald at court Nos. 3 and 1, respectively.
Soon enough, UCLA was within a game of clinching the match at three courts, with 35th-ranked Dennis Mkrtchian (court No. 2), Karue Sell (court No. 4) and Ryoto Tachi (court No. 6) all on the verge of victory. Mkrtchian would get the clinching win, as his 6-3, 6-2 victory over Espejo at court No. 2 sealed the victory for UCLA. Before play could be halted, Sell finished off Bautista, 6-3, 6-2, resulting in the 5-0 score.
UCLA will take the weekend off from dual-match competition, heading to the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships in La Jolla, Calif.
