STANFORD, Calif. - The eighth-ranked Bruins (8-1) concluded team play in the Stanford Invitational with a 5-0 win over Saint Mary's (4-10) on Saturday afternoon at the new Stanford Sand Volleyball Stadium. The Bruins improve to 2-0 all-time against the Gaels.
The UCLA No. 1 doubles pair of Kamila Tan and Zoë Nightingale rallied again to post their third-straight three-set win, defeating Saint Mary's Dalas Dodd and Alexis Salmons, 21-19, 10-21, 15-8. The newly formed Bruin pair is now 5-2 on the year.
At #2 doubles, the Bruins' Elise Zappia and Madie Smith won a tightly contested three-set match over the Gaels' Mary Hernandez and Clare Powers, 21-18, 19-21, 15-13 to improve to 10-3 on the season.
Julie Consani and Laurel Weaver rebounded from this morning's loss and outfought the Saint Mary's tandem of Mileva Popovic and Madi Wilkerson, 21-16, 21-15. The Bruin duo is now 7-2 on the year.
At #4 doubles, Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye again posted an easy straight-set victory over the Gaels' Maegan Conroy and Hannah Liserra, 21-13, 21-11. The Bruin pair is now 8-2 on the year.
The Bruins' Lexi Jasper-Baylin and Ivey Schmitt defeated SMC's Nicole Singh and Nicole Trenka in straight sets at #5 doubles, 21-10, 21-14.
In an exhibition match, the Bruins' Kendahl Hettick and Anastasia Kunz teamed up to defeat Saint Mary's Hannah Liserra and Petra Grutzik in straight sets, 21-12, 21-12.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow morning in the Stanford Invitational Pairs Tournament.
