LONG BEACH, Calif. - The eighth-ranked Bruins (5-0) recorded their first sweep of the year, defeating No. 19 CSU Bakersfield (9-5) on Saturday afternoon without dropping a set to the Roadrunners at the LBSU Sand Courts. The Bruins improved to 2-0 all-time against CSU Bakersfield.
The UCLA No.1 doubles pair of Kamila Tan and Zoë Nightingale won in straight sets over Mariah Alvidrez and Molly O'Hagan, 24-22, 21-12. The newly formed Bruin pair is now 2-1 on the year.
At #2 doubles, the Bruins' Elise Zappia and Madie Smith defeated CSUB's Danika Youngblood and Sydney Haynes in straight sets, 21-11, 21-15. The Bruin duo improves to 7-2 on the season.
Julie Consani and Laurel Weaver won in straight sets, 21-11, 23-21 at No. 3 doubles over CSUB's Sara Little and Sophie Flemion. The Bruin tandem is now 5-0 in 2015.
At #4 doubles, Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye rebounded after their first loss of the year to defeat BHazel Perrens and Kelsee Sawyer in straight sets, 21-12, 21-16. The Bruin pair is now 4-1 on the year.
At #5 doubles, the Bruins' new tandem of Ivey Schmitt and Kendahl Hettick posted a straight-set victory (21-16, 21-15) over the Roadrunners' tandem of Star Tucker-Campbell and Luiza Martins. The Bruin tandem is now 1-0 on the year.
