August 19, 2015 | Men's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – The No. 1 ranked UCLA men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Mexican U-17 National Team in front of a sizable crowd at North Athletic Field on Tuesday evening. The Bruins first-half tally was matched by a second-half goal from the Mexican side to produce a tie in the first exhibition game of the season for UCLA.
The Bruins got off to an excellent start, putting pressure on the Mexican backline from the outset. The attacking play led to an early goal that put UCLA ahead in the opening minutes of the match. Brian Iloski earned the assist on a ball that found Michael Amick at the far post for the opening goal in the seventh minute.
After UCLA held the lead throughout the rest of the first half and early into the second, the Mexican U-17's finally got on the board in the 60th minute. Nahum Gomez Del Rosal took a free-kick from outside of the box and beat Juan Cervantes to the far left post to even the match at one goal apiece. The Gomez Del Rosal tally proved to be the final goal of the match, which ended 1-1.
Overall, the Bruins out-shot the Mexican U-17 National Team, 12-11, with UCLA's Cervantes making four saves on the night.
