Bruins Head to USC for Tournament

LOS ANGELES, Calif. โ The UCLA men's tennis team heads across town this week to compete in the 60th Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championships.ย The five-day tournament runs Oct. 27-31 at USC's Marks Stadium.ย
Action kicks off on Thursday with the singles qualifying draw.ย UCLA'sย Daniel Gealer is slated to play Edvin Larsson (UCSD) on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. PT.ย Singles main draw begins on Friday.ย Maxime Cressy, Ben Goldberg, and Austin Rappย each secured a spot in the main draw.ย Rapp is the tournament's No. 6 seed.ย
In doubles, Goldberg/Gealer and fourth-seeded Rapp/Cressy hit the courts for main draw action on Saturday.
In addition to UCLA, the other schools competing in the tournament include:ย Azusa Pacific, BYU, Cal Poly, Concordia, Hawai'i, LMU, Pepperdine, Texas Tech, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, and host USC.ย ย
In 2014, then freshmen Rapp andย Martin Redlickiย took home the doubles title after downing BYU's David Ball and Jacob Sullivan, 8-3.ย In singles play, then seniorย Dennis Mkrtchian captured the singles crown after defeating teammate and top-seededย Gage Brymerย in the championship match.ย The Bruins also swept the event in 2013, when Clay Thompson claimed the singles title and Mackenzie McDonald and Karue Sell won the doubles crown.ย ย
