October 27, 2016 | Women's Soccer
No. 22 Colorado scored the only goal of the game in the 50th minute to hand No. 9 UCLA its first road loss of the season.
Emily Bruder broke the scoreless tie at 49:30 when she lofted a shot from long distance over the head of UCLA goalkeeper Teagan Micah. The goal was her first of the season and all that the Buffaloes needed to maintain their lead in the Pac-12 standings.
The Bruins had some good chances but could not break through. Anika Rodriguez had UCLA's best chances of the first half, with a long-distance shot hitting the top of the crossbar in the 14th minute and another shot a minute later getting saved by Colorado goalkeeper Jalen Tompkins. Lauren Kaskie nearly tied it up in the 55th minute on a long-distance strike that went just high, landing atop the net.
UCLA worked hard to equalize in the final minutes of the game but kept getting denied. In the 84th minute, MacKenzie Cerda's header in the box was saved by Colorado goalkeeper Jalen Tompkins. A minute later, Julia Hernandez hit the crossbar on a shot from about 25 yards out, and in the 86th minute Cerda had another opportunity stopped by Tompkins.
The shutout loss was the Bruins' first of the season. Micah had three saves in the contest, while Tompkins recorded four. UCLA outshot Colorado, 13-12.
