
UCLA placed four in the top-12 to help solidify the third place finish on Friday.
UCLA Shines at Pac-12 Championships

TUCSON, Ariz. – The UCLA men's cross country team had four of the top-12 finishers to place third overall on Friday morning at the Pac-12 Cross Country Championships, held at the Randolph North Golf Course. The women placed seventh in the 6k competition.
The third place showing for UCLA was its best since 1996 and its best score since 1982. UCLA tallied 58 points, just off of second place Stanford at 47 and the winner Colorado with 41.
Leading the way for the Bruins on Friday on the 8k course and all season long was Ferdinand Edman. The senior placed fifth overall with a time of 24:18.4.
A pack of three Bruins placed 10-12 to help secure the third place finish. Senior Jonah Diaz backed up his solid Nuttycombe performance by placing 10th with a time of 24:42.2. In his first Pac-12 championship redshirt freshman Colin Burke was 11th at 24:42.8 while senior Austin O'Neil was 12th at 24:43.6. Junior Daniel De La Torre capped off the UCLA top-5 in 20th with a time of 24:57.8.
Freshman Garrett Reynolds was 35th at 25:15.2 and sophomore Jackson Marshall rounded out the top-7 in 37th with a time of 25:17.0.
Also competing for the Bruins was junior Myles Smith (44th, 25:31.7), redshirt freshman Millen Trujillo (51st, 25:51.1) and sophomore Cole Smith (55th, 26:01.3).
The women, without freshman phenom Claire Markey, placed seventh overall with 201 points. Sophomore Julia Rizk paced UCLA on the 6k course with a 29th place finish with a time of 21:30.7. 2015 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Carolina Johnson placed 34th overall with a time of 21:35.0.
Freshman Sophie Baird followed in 44th at 21:49.6 and freshman Cassie Durgy was 49th at 22:00.0 while junior Roni Yamane concluded the Bruin top-5 in 55th place at 22:09.2. Redshirt freshman Jackie Garner closely followed in 56th at 22:10.3.
Sophomore Taylor Taite rounded out the UCLA top-7 in 70th place with a time of 22:35.2. Also competing for the Bruins was junior Emily Fieberling (93rd, 24:03.8) and junior Jessica Cushing-Murray (105th, 25:38.9).
The NCAA Regional Championships will be Friday, Nov. 11. The West Regional (hosted by Sacramento State) will be held in Sacramento. The NCAA National Championships are being held in Terre Haute, Ind. (hosted by Indiana State) on Saturday, Nov. 19.
