
UCLA looks to qualify for the NCAA Championships this Friday.
UCLA Heads to NCAA West Regional Championship

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA cross country team will travel to Sacramento to compete in the NCAA West Regional Championship. The meet will take place on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Haggin Oaks Golf Club. The women will start things off at 11 AM PT and will be followed by the men at Noon.
The UCLA men enter the meet ranked No. 8 in the country, the best ranking in the history of the poll for the Bruins. The women, who are receiving votes in the poll are No. 7 in the regional rankings. The men check in at No. 2 in the region.ย
The UCLA's men's team saw success at the Pac-12 Championships a couple of weeks ago in Tucson. The Bruins had four of the top-12 finishers, placing UCLA third overall, their best finish since 1996.
Senior Ferdinand Edman placed fifth overall in the 8k with a time of 24:18:4 to lead the Bruins. Three Bruins placed 10-12 at the competition.ย
Four men from the UCLA team garnered All-Pac-12 honors. On the first team was senior Ferdinand Edman. The second team included Jonah Diaz, Colin Burke, and Austin O'Neil. The four selections were tied for the most in the conference.ย
The women, despite missing freshman phenom Claire Markey placed seventh in the 6k competition, led by sophomore Julia Rizk, who finished 29th with a time of 21:30.7.ย
Last year the UCLA men finished seventh and the women placed 10th at the NCAA West Regional Championships in the rain. Sergey Sushchikh led the men with a ninth place finish in the 10k contest with a time of 31:18.9.ย
Carolina Johnson led the women with an 11th place finish on the 6k course in a time of 21:00.4. UCLA's Lane Werley, Sergey Sushchikh, and Carolina Johnson were awarded All-Region accolades, with both Werley and Johnson earning Pac-12 honors as well. The men qualified for the NCAA Championships while Johnson individually qualified.
